Charlot/Philip Deloria

The statement he has filled graves with our bones sends chills up and down my spine, this was a insightful read.Pay him for our own,I just can't imagine anyone going into a store, buying something and then walking out of the store and paying the doorman again!!If we where asked to do this there would be an uproar, people everywhere protesting. As the Indians saw it God gave them the land,no one person owned it,but we saw diffrent, our greed made us want what ever the Indians had.If the Indians are on land you want, shoot them, take everything they have and then the land is yours. How is it that the Indians are the "miserable wretches"(Baum)we where the ones acting like savages.Just the same as in the Philip Deloria article we want to kill off a whole race and yet be just like them..makes me wonder, was it jealousy? We where jealous of the freedom the Indians had,or was it to turn the blam on the Indians? When you want what someone else has it is envy and jealousy that pushes you to get what they have.Which in turn makes you want to kill, thieve and persicute. It makes me ashamed to know how the Indians where treated and to think we claim to be a free, law abiding, fair treating nation.

Baum

Wow,is what I first thought about this article! To think that us as white people thought that we could notget along with the Indians ,to me is just plain crazy. We are suppossed to be created equal, yet we see ourselves as better than the Indians because of our culture?Because of our color?Because we wear diffrent clothes. This has not change in our society at all,we still have prejudice the same as back then, but we can't say we are going to wipe the whole race off the face of the earth. My Grandma is full blooded Indian and if this where to happen where would me and my family be?Not here if Baum had his way!

Century of Dishonor

The struggle of the Poncars is a rude awaking on how we treated the Indians, who lived on this land.Making treaties we would never keep just to gain the land from the Indians, saying we would protect and feed them. While we knew we would only let them starve and not provide what they needed.I was inraged to read the story that took place in Nebraska. It was so sickining to me to know that our troops actually gunned these innocent Indians down.Little girls in their moms arms and there was no sympathy, raping and taking evry last thing that those innocent people had with them.It shows me how greedy that we are,we want it all and we will lie, steal, cheat, kill or whatever means necessary to get what we want.It breakes my heart to know that we took advantage of the Indians and all their belongings just for some land to call our own.

Red Bird

What an amazing women she was,to have accomplished all she was able to as an Indian women speaks volumns about how much influence this women actually had.To be able to have done so much in such an oppressed time is an amazing accomplishment. She not only wanted to fight for what was right for the Indian people, but also wanted to be able to live in the palefaced world. Not being able to learn when you are an able, young, excited child is not something we experience alot here.Comeing from where she came from and knowing what she knew about the white man did not scare her at all.She just wanted to taste the apples, see the new land, and learn what she could learn.Leaving her mom at such a young age of eight is just absolutly not something I could do as a parent, unless there was something better for them.Having to let go of now her only daughter as a mom, took some amazing strength, but she also knew that her daughter would do amazing things once givin the opportunity.

noble savage

Noble savage basically to me means a natural person, one who lives off wildlife to eat,for clothes and for various neccesities, basically one who is able to survive off the land and is able to use all of nature to their advantage.Savage seems like a harsh word to use for someone who lives off the land,so I looked it up and it means not domesticated or cultivated. When I think of savage I think of a wild man/women who goes around destroying, having no respect for anyone else, and killing for what he/she wants. This in no way describes what a noble savage means,or what I think about when I think of Indians.Indians where, as described in the definition, a people living off of what was provided to them, not a wild ,bunch of people running around destroying everything in their path, which is where society has steared us wrong to believe.
